Single-sided and double-sided edge-wedge fireclay bricks are shaped refractory bricks for arched and vaulted masonry. Their taper runs across the brick width, making them suitable where the wedge orientation corresponds to bricks laid on edge.
Two thickness measurements define the wedge profile. Unlike an end wedge, the taper has a different orientation relative to the length and width. Single-sided and double-sided designs position the sloping faces differently. Similar-looking wedges should not be selected on overall dimensions alone.
Variant No. 45b measures 230 × 150 × 65 × 45 mm and is wider than No. 45. It is designed for masonry layouts requiring a wider edge wedge.
Check the number, both thicknesses and the direction of the bevels. The geometry must match the design radius and brick orientation within the vault.
